Question:

Can I recruit a graduate as an Apprentice?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 3:50 PM)
Answer:

An apprenticeship is primarily for those who have not had the opportunity of going to university, however, graduates can apply for level 3 Apprenticeships, the degree must be in a difference route to the Apprenticeship.  The units of the degree will be checked against the qualification to ensure that it is ‘materially different’.

Bydd prentisiaeth ar gael yn bennaf ar gyfer y rheiny na chafodd y cyfle i fynd i brifysgol ond gall graddedigion wneud cais am Brentisiaeth Lefel 3 os bydd y Brentisiaeth yn dilyn llwybr gwahanol i’r radd. Caiff unedau’r radd eu gwirio yn erbyn y cymhwyster i sicrhau bod ‘gwahaniaeth sylweddol’.

Question:

How long will the Apprenticeship take?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 3:58 PM)
Answer:

This depends on the type of Apprenticeship you choose, some take a year, some up to four years.

Question:

How often will I see staff from the Training Provider?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 4:02 PM)
Answer:

You will be visited prior to the Apprentice is signed up to carry out a Health and Safety vet.  The apprenticeship programme will be fully explained to you and you will be given paperwork to read and sign.  This allows the Training Provider to draw down the appropriate funding to pay for the training of the Apprentice.

During the first few weeks after signing the Apprentice, you are likely to get regular visits from Training Provider staff just to make sure that everything is in order.

Someone will visit the Apprentice at least every 8 weeks to carry out a Review of Progress, you may also see an Assessor who will visit to assess the Apprentice undertaking various jobs during their working day.

All employers are encouraged to fully participate in a Review of Progress, this gives the opportunity to record everything the apprentice has undertaken during the previous 8-weeks and plan for the next 8 weeks.

Bydd rhywun yn ymweld â chi cyn rhoi lle i Brentis i gynnal archwiliad Iechyd a Diogelwch. Caiff rhaglen y prentisiaethau ei hesbonio’n llawn i chi a chewch ddogfennau i’w darllen a’u llofnodi. Bydd hyn yn galluogi’r Darparwr Hyfforddiant i sicrhau’r cyllid priodol i gael talu am hyfforddiant y Prentis.

Yn ystod yr wythnosau cyntaf wedi arwyddo’r Prentis, rydych yn debygol o gael ymweliadau rheolaidd oddi wrth staff y Darparwr Hyfforddiant i gael gwneud yn siŵr bod popeth yn iawn.

Bydd rhywun yn ymweld â’r Prentis o leiaf bob 8 wythnos i wneud Adolygiad Cynnydd. Efallai y daw Aseswr hefyd a fydd yn ymweld i asesu’r Prentisiaid wrth iddynt wneud gwahanol fathau o waith yn ystod eu diwrnod gwaith.

Caiff pob cyflogwr ei annog i gymryd rhan lawn mewn Adolygiad Cynnydd a fydd yn rhoi cyfle i gofnodi popeth a wnaeth y prentis yn ystod yr 8 wythnos flaenorol a chynllunio ar gyfer yr 8 wythnos nesaf.

Question:

If I want YRP funding to support my new member of staff, is there a time limit for applying?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 4:31 PM)
Answer:

There is a 10-week rule between the time of recruiting the apprentice and the time they are signed onto an Apprenticeship programme.  No YRP funding is paid during this period – signing your employee as an apprentice triggers the start of the payments.

Mae rheol 10-wythnos rhwng amser recriwtio’r Prentisiaid a’r amser y cânt eu harwyddo ar raglen Prentisiaethau. Ni chaiff unrhyw gyllid ei dalu yn ystod y cyfnod hwn; bydd arwyddo eich cyflogai yn brentis yn rhoi cychwyn i’r taliadau.

Question:

Is there an age restriction to becoming an Apprentice?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 4:44 PM)
Answer:

The majority of Apprenticeships can be undertaken at any age providing you have legally left school, however, there are some sectors where apprentices must be under the age of 25, these are:
- Agriculture (not including Sustainable Resource Management)
- Business Administration (not including Insurance or Accounting)

- Retailing & Customer Service

Gellir ymgymryd â’r rhan fwyaf o Brentisiaethau ar unrhyw oedran, dim ond i chi fod wedi gadael yr ysgol yn gyfreithlon. Fodd bynnag, mae rhai sectorau lle bydd rhaid i brentisiaid fod o dan 25 oed, sef:
- Amaethyddiaeth (heb gynnwys Rheoli Adnoddau Cynaliadwy)
- Gweinyddu Busnes (heb gynnwys Yswiriant neu Gyfrifeg)
- Trin Gwallt a Harddwch
- Iechyd, Gofal a Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus (heb gynnwys Gofal Plant)
- Manwerthu a Gwasanaethau Cwsmeriaid

Question:

What are Apprenticeships?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 4:52 PM)

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the needs of employers.  These lead to national recognised qualifications. They are an excellent way to develop skills within the workforce.  All Apprenticeships include the following elements:

Rhaglenni hyfforddi yn y gweithle yw prentisiaethau sydd wedi’u cynllunio o gwmpas anghenion cyflogwyr. Bydd y rhain yn arwain at gymwysterau cenedlaethol cydnabyddedig. Maen nhw’n ffordd ragorol ar gyfer datblygu sgiliau’r gweithlu. Bydd pob Prentisiaeth yn cynnwys yr elfennau canlynol:

  • An appropriate competency qualification;Cymhwyster priodol o allu’r Prentis;
  • An appropriate Knowledge qualification; (These may be combined to form one qualification)Cymhwyster Gwybodaeth priodol; (gellir cyfuno’r rhain i ffurfio un cymhwyster)

Question:

What do I pay my Appentice?

(Last edited: Wednesday, 25 June 2014, 4:55 PM)
Answer:

The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is £2.68 per hour (from 1-10-13). Many employers prefer to pay more however, and research shows that the average salary is approx £180 per week.  Paying a ‘fair’ wage encourages Apprentices to remain in employment with you. The Welsh Government will fund their training.Further information on Minimum Wage Regulations can be obtained at:

Yr Isafswm Cyflog Cenedlaethol ar gyfer prentisiaid yw £2.68 yr awr (o 1-10-13). Bydd yn well gan lawer o gyflogwyr dalu mwy, fodd bynnag, ac mae ymchwil yn dangos mai tua £180 yr wythnos yw’r cyflog ar gyfartaledd. Bydd talu cyflog ‘teg’ yn annog prentisiaid i aros yn eich swydd chi. Fe wnaiff Llywodraeth Cymru gyllido’r hyfforddiant. Gellir cael rhagor o wybodaeth ar Reoliadau Isafswm Cyflog yma:

Question:

What is Flexible Learning?

(Last edited: Thursday, 26 June 2014, 8:13 AM)
Answer:

Flexible learning is skills training at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5.  It offers the opportunity for employees to undertake single qualifications to which the Welsh Government will make a funding contribution of up to a maximum of 50% of its normal funding rates applicable at the time.  The option is available for those employees aged 19 and over.

There is a restriction to the number of Apprentices who can be on this programme Flexible learning.

Dysgu hyblyg yw hyfforddiant sgiliau ar lefelau 2, 3, 4 a 5. Mae’n rhoi’r cyfle i gyflogeion gymryd cymwysterau sengl ac y bydd Llywodraeth Cymru yn gwneud cyfraniad ariannol iddynt hyd at 50% ar y mwyaf o’i chyfraddau cyllido arferol ar y pryd. Mae’r opsiwn ar gael ar gyfer y cyflogeion hynny sy’n 19 oed neu’n hŷn.

Mae cyfyngiad ar nifer y Prentisiais sy’n gallu bod ar y rhaglen Dysgu Hyblyg hon.

Question:

What is the financial support?

(Last edited: Thursday, 26 June 2014, 9:54 AM)
Answer:

We can pay a contribution of up to £2,600:

If the apprentice is employed for a minimum of 25 hours a week (apprentices must also be paid for time at college) and commence their apprenticeship programme on or after 1 January 2014 then the subsidy will be £50 per week for 52 weeks.

This will be paid to you (the employer) for employing an eligible person under this programme (if approved and if evidence is provided).

Please note that the wage subsidy element of this support is not applicable to apprenticeships within the Public Sector.

Whilst Cardiff and Vale College Apprenticeships will provide the wage subsidy under YRP, it is the responsibility of you, the employer, to ensure that you comply with HM Revenue and Customs Minimum Wage Regulations.

Gallwn dalu cyfraniad hyd at £2,600:
Os yw’r prentis yn cael ei gyflogi am o leiaf 25 awr yr wythnos (rhaid talu prentisiaid hefyd am eu hamser yn y coleg) ac yn dechrau ei raglen brentisiaeth ar neu wedi Ionawr 1af 2014, yna bydd y cymhorthdal yn £50 yr wythnos am 52 wythnos.

Caiff hwn ei dalu i chi (y cyflogwr) am gyflogi person cymwys o dan y rhaglen hon (os caiff ei gymeradwyo ac os caiff tystiolaeth ei rhoi).

Nodwch nad yw’r elfen cymhorthdal cyflog yn berthnasol i brentisiaid yn y Sector Cyhoeddus.

Question:

What is the WLAD

(Last edited: Thursday, 26 June 2014, 9:56 AM)
Answer:

This is the Welsh Learning Aim Database.  Until qualifications are approved and listed on this database it will not be funded by the Welsh Government.

Dyma Gronfa Ddata Nodau Dysgu Cymru. Nes i gymwysterau gael eu cymeradwyo a’u rhestru ar y gronfa ddata hon, ni chaiff ei gyllido gan Lywodraeth Cymru.

Question:

When will I receive my first lot of funding?

(Last edited: Thursday, 26 June 2014, 9:59 AM)
Answer:

You must submit evidence as per the guidance notes in the Application pack.

Bydd rhaid i chi gyflwyno tystiolaeth yn unol â’r canllawiau yn y Pecyn Ymgeisio.

Question:

Who are Apprenticeships for?

(Last edited: Thursday, 26 June 2014, 10:01 AM)

Question:

I have been working in the industry for years, do I have to start at the lower level of Apprenticeship?

(Last edited: Thursday, 26 June 2014, 10:07 AM)
Answer:

This depends on the requirement of the Apprenticeship Framework, some frameworks require apprentices to have completed level 3 qualifications prior to progression to level 3, others will take into account your industry knowledge and you could start at level 3.

Bydd hyn yn dibynnu ar ofynion Fframwaith y Prentisiaethau; bydd rhai fframweithiau’n mynnu bod prentisiaid wedi cwblhau cymwysterau lefel 3 cyn symud ymlaen i lefel 3; bydd eraill yn cymryd eich gwybodaeth o’r diwydiant i ystyriaeth a gallech ddechrau ar lefel 3.
